The OE oil filters from Nissan and other manufacturers are designed for light oil, the OE specification is 0w40. As the viscosity increases, the factory filter begins to become a limitation for the thicker oil.
Most filters have a bypass that opens at about 10 psi oil differential pressure. That is, if the pressure on the inlet side of the filter is 10psi higher than the pressure on the outlet side of the filter, the bypass opens and unfiltered oil enters the engine. This is bad for obvious reasons.
The WIX Racing filters are designed for thicker racing oils and higher oil flow rates (which comes with higher RPM).
The increased surface area and flow capacity of the Racing Filters means there is less pressure drop across the filter and in the case of the recommended 51060R WIX Racing Filter there is no bypass so 100% of the oil is filtered 100% of the time.
The oil filter adapter includes the rebuild base, filter thread adapter and your choice of WIX oil filter. The filter thread adapter has an internal thread on the OE side and is fitted with a retaining clip that holds it together with the conversion base. Once installed, the base and thread adapter remain on the engine during oil changes, allowing for easy filter replacement during oil changes.
