Description

Features of the CSF High Performance Intercooler System (CSF #8188):
- Eliminates heat build-up and lowers intake air temperatures for maximum performance in racing conditions - particularly critical due to the placement of the intercooler in the engine bay
- Formula-1 Performance Grade Core by PWR (2-row core with rolled tubes and inner fins)
- 33 pipes vs. OEM 17
- 3mm rolled tubing vs. OEM 7mm
- 4.85mm fin height compared to OEM 8mm
- CNC machined billet end tanks with integrated Y-pipe connection to throttle body
- 100% TIG welded versus OEM gaskets and crimped plastic end tanks for maximum durability in high boost applications
- CNC machined OEM style inlet/outlet fittings for an exact fit with all OEM components
- Advanced lightweight design - weighs only 20 lbs. Total weight (9.07 kg)
-True plug-and-play "drop-in fit" installation
R&D and performance testing from industry leading Porsche tuning companies - M-Engineering, World Motorsports, GMG Racing and Gosha Turbo Tech

How the new Porsche 992 intercooler system works
Unconventionally to the typical single, side-mounted intercooler behind the front door ducts found in previous water-cooled turbo models, the new 992 generation has moved the intercooler system to the top of the engine compartment. Fresh ambient air is now channeled into the intercooler system through redesigned intercooler ducts located under the trunk lid.

CSF's new CNC machined all aluminum intercooler system - installed on M-Engineering's 750WHP 992 Turbo S demo vehicle.
Cool, fresh air is drawn in through charge air ducts located on each side of the vehicle's rear quarter panel. The air then flows into the intake tanks on each side of the charge air cooler system module. The heat transfer process occurs as the charge air moves through the charge air cooler core and the ambient air from the upper charge air cooler ducts flows through the core and exits underneath the vehicle. The intercooled charge air from both cores is then combined in the single exhaust reservoir in the center section before entering the Y-pipe, which connects to the engine's throttle body.

The CSF Advantage

Formula 1 core technology
The key feature of the CSF by PWR 992 Turbo/S intercooler system is the Formula-1 grade intercooler core. CSF's strategic relationship with PWR has enabled the use of this core unlike any other in the performance retrofit market.

Industry leading dyno testing by M-Engineering

Working with Jon and Mitch, owners and lead tuners at M-Engineering, the OEM intercoolers were compared to the CSF High-Performance Intercooler System on World Motorsports' state-of-the-art wind tunnel test facility.
Below are the plots of data from two test runs, one with the stock intercooler and one with the CSF high-performance intercooler. These tests started in 4th gear at 2500 rpm, went through a shift to 5th and then to the redline.

The CSF intercooler system proved to be much more efficient across the entire rev range, especially at very high charge air temperatures (beginning of the run).

The CSF intercooler system (left) compared to the OEM system (right) showing better results on intake air temperature (IAT) and intercooler efficiency while tested in hotter conditions. (The orange line in the CSF graph on the left shows the improved power by about 25*F at the end of 5th gear)

Due to the larger and more efficient cores, the CSF intercooler system showed a slightly higher pressure drop with a range of 0.5 to 1psi more than the OEM system throughout the dyno test. This is generally to be expected - more surface area, more resistance - but with increased cooling efficiency that the CSF intercooler system offered.
